Qatar Masters: Patrick Reed continues strong form with impressive first-round in Doha on DP World Tour

Patrick Reed continued his storming start to the year on the DP World Tour by carding a five-under 65 to share the lead after the opening round of the Qatar Masters.

American Reed won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic last month and lost a dramatic three-way play-off at the Bahrain Championship last weekend.

Those tournaments came either side of Reed announcing on January 28 that he had quit LIV Golf to return to the PGA Tour in 2027. He will play on the DP World Tour for the rest of this year.

On Thursday's opening day at the Doha Golf Club, the 2018 Masters champion mixed nine birdies with two bogeys for his seven-under-par total to take a share of the lead at the end of play with New Zealand's Daniel Hillier.

Hillier's round included an eagle at the par-five ninth.

Sweden's Marcus Kinhult, Denmark's Jacob Skov Olesen and Finland's Oliver Lindell all finished one shot back at six under.

Australian David Micheluzzi hit a hole in one at the 204-yard par-three third hole.

Ireland's three-time major champion Padraig Harrington is also in the field and making a landmark 500th tournament appearance on the DP World Tour.
