Inside Palace's negotiation for Strand Larsen

Icon

Latest from Your Site News' James Savundra:

Crystal Palace have managed to negotiate a package with Wolves lower than what was close to being agreed on Thursday.

Palace were unwilling to commit to the 5m in add-ons that Wolves were attempting to insert into the deal.

The Eagles risked missing out on the transfer but bided their time to negotiate a more favourable deal ahead of Monday's deadline.

Wolves have been adamant that they did not need to sell the Norwegian striker.

However, both clubs were aware that the player would not be able to fetch anywhere close to 45m in the summer based on Wolves' impending relegation and Strand Larsen's continued on-field struggles.

Therefore, Palace feel they've been able to extract better value from the deal whilst still paying a premium for a striker in January.

Palace were not actively looking to sell Jean-Philippe Mateta in this transfer window.

However, an impasse in contract negotiations and the Frenchman making clear of his wishes to depart accelerated Palace's transfer plans.

Palace's season hangs on a knife edge. They still have a strong opportunity of adding further silverware to their cabinet and recording a solid Premier League finish.

However, an eight-match winless run in the top flight means there is work to do to avoid an uncomfortable end to Oliver Glasner's final months in charge.

Will Leeds sign anyone after missing out on Strand Larsen?

Latest from Your Site News Zinny Boswell:

Leeds United are unlikely to bring in a striker before the deadline now Jorgen Strand Larsen appears set to join Crystal Palace

The promoted club had been unwilling to above 40m in their pursuit of the 25-year-old.

Palace have agreed an initial 43m deal plus 5m in add-ons with Wolves for the Norway international.

A late arrival before Monday's 7pm deadline is not being ruled out at this stage, however.

Leeds have to be mindful of staying in line with the Premier League's financial rules and it was thought coming into the window that loan signings were more likely than permanent deals.

Strand Larsen was viewed as a unique opportunity for the long-term and much of the deal would have had to be structured to come out of next year's budget.

With so little time left in the window, it is unlikely another such target would become available.

Forest turn attentions to Engels with Fratessi deal stalling

Latest from Your Site News' Anthony Joseph and Anton Toloui:

Nottingham Forest are looking at other central midfield targets, as their deal for Inter Milans Davide Frattesi is unlikely to be given the green light.

Forest and Inter have an agreement in principle for the 26-year-old a loan with an option to buy for 34.6m. But the deal is dependent on Inter finding a replacement.

The Serie A club want to sign Curtis Jones, but Your Site News understands that letting players go is not on Liverpool's agenda before the deadline.

Forest are turning to other targets on their list one which is Celtic midfielder Arne Engels.

There has been no contact between the clubs, but its believed it is unlikely Celtic will sanction a move for Engels this late in the window.

Hoops boss Martin ONeill is a keen admirer of the Belgium international, who signed for Celtic for a record fee of 11m in August 2024.

Engels is understood to be relaxed about his future and is happy to stay at Celtic to fight for the Scottish Premiership title.

RB Leipzig made an enquiry for the player earlier in this window.

Forest are also wanting to sign a defender before tomorrows deadline.

Latest from Your Site News' Kaveh Solhekol, Mark McAdam, Vinny O'Connor, Keith Downie, Lyall Thomas and Sky in Italy's Gianluca Di Marzio:

Liverpool have made contact with Rennes over a deal for Jeremy Jacquet in the summer - but still face strong competition from Chelsea.

Rennes have said he is not leaving during this window, so several interested clubs are trying to secure him for later in 2026.

Chelsea are also trying hard to get him, as Your Site News has covered extensively in recent weeks.

Liam Rosenior and Chelsea's recruitment staff really want him - they want a centre-back who can bring the ball out from the back.

Rennes are holding out for a fee of 54.6m (63m) and there is also interest from Bayern Munich as well.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot insisted last night the club are trying to strengthen before the deadline.

Sky in Italy are reporting that Curtis Jones is keen on a move to Inter Milan - but letting players go before the deadline is clearly not on Liverpool's agenda.

Instead, they are exploring ways of improving their squad and having talks about signing right-back Lutsharel Geertruida from RB Leipzig via Sunderland, where he is on loan.

Agents and intermediaries are flooding Liverpool with options and ideas before the deadline and another that has been mentioned to them is Denzel Dumfries - the Inter right-back.

The club have not taken it any further so far.

Latest from Your Site News' Lyall Thomas and James Savundra:

Crystal Palace have made a renewed bid for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen

Your Site News understands the offer is 43m guaranteed plus 5m in add-ons.

This is lower than the previously discussed fee of 45m plus 5m in add-ons.

Wolves are currently considering the bid.

Palace are now pushing to sign Strand Larsen with the framework of Jean-Philippe Mateta's move to AC Milan in place.

Mateta wants the move but it is being held up at the moment while Palace try to sign a replacement.

Latest from Your Site News' Mark McAdam and Anthony Joseph:

Javi Gracia has left Watford after a meeting with the board today.

Your Site News understands he has resigned.

Charlie Daniels, Dan Gosling and Adrian Mariappa are set to take charge of the first team for the trip to Hull on Tuesday.

Your Site News understands Gracia is saying his goodbyes to the players this afternoon.

Watford lost 2-0 at home to Swansea City yesterday.

After the game, he told reporters he wanted to meet with the owner Gino Pozzo today to discuss the quality of the squad and the clubs ambitions.

"We are in a very difficult moment," Gracia told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"I knew before the game it could happen. Some players are injured, some players are gone, some players are coming, some players are playing with discomfort. The last results speak about the team now.

"I want to speak with the owner and to know how they feel because I'm really disappointed with the level of the team, the situation of the team and maybe the future of the team as well.

Gracia had only been in charge of the club for three months, replacing the sacked Paulo Pezzolano.

This was his second spell in charge of Watford having previously managed them between January 2018 and September 2019.
