Transylvania Open: Emma Raducanu into semi-finals after straight-sets win over Maja Chwalinska

Emma Raducanu booked her place in the Transylvania Open semi-finals after beating Maja Chwalinska in straight sets.

Raducanu produced a flawless 6-0 first-set performance, but Chwalinska battled back in the second set, breaking early on to put the Brit under pressure.

But the No 1 seed kept her composure, breaking straight back, and held her serve for the rest of the match as her 6-0 6-4 win set up a clash with Ukranian Oleksandra Oliynykova in the semi-finals.

"I'm very happy with my performance," Raducanu said after the match. "I played a great match from the beginning, and I was so happy to have that start.

"There's always going to be moments of adversity that I need to overcome, and I did that well in the second set, so really proud of how I did that.

"Maja is a really tough opponent, moves so well, has great hand skills, so I'm really happy with how I overcame that challenge."

On her semi-final clash with Olynikova, she added: "I saw a little bit, she was playing before me. I didn't have much time last night to get ready for this one. I'm so focused on recovery - no matter how long each match is it takes a lot out of you, so I need to recover well."

Sonay Kartal's Abu Dhabi open campaign came to a close as she lost to Czech Sara Beljek in the quarter-finals in straight sets.

The Brit was unable to carry any momentum forward from her victory against Renata Zarazua in the last round, as Kartal lost 10 straight games before eventually losing the match 6-0 6-2 to the 20-year old.

Katie Boulter picked up another impressive victory in the Ostrava Open, beating Linda Fruhitova 6-3 6-2 to progress into the last four.

The British No 2 has only dropped nine games in her last two matches, setting up a clash with American Katie Volynets in the semi-finals.

Boulter is now two games away from just her fourth WTA tour singles title.
