Jorgen Strand Larsen: Crystal Palace still pursuing Wolves striker after transfer hitting stumbling block

Crystal Palace still want to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves despite hitting a stumbling block in negotiations for the striker.

It emerged on Thursday night that the transfer was hanging in the balance after the parties had more or less verbally agreed a deal for £45m plus £5m in add-ons earlier that day.

As it stands, Palace remain in talks to sign Strand Larsen, but there is a sticking point over the add-ons with some adjustments that are yet to be agreed on. Leeds remain at the table for Strand Larsen, but will not go above £40m.

The Norway striker will be in the Wolves squad for Saturday's Premier League game against Bournemouth, says Rob Edwards.

Wolves are trying to sign Che Adams from Torino as Strand Larsen's replacement.

may also have a bearing on the outcome of Strand Larsen's move to Palace. AC Milan and Nottingham Forest have both made offers for around £35m for the Frenchman.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner has said the striker will not feature in Sunday's trip to Forest - live on Your Site - because he "doesn't feel in the right place to play". The south London club want to sign a replacement before Mateta leaves.

Palace are on course to complete a loan deal with Aston Villa for forward Evann Guessand despite a late enquiry from Juventus. that is triggered if he makes a certain number of appearances.

Guessand's anticipated arrival is not expected to stop Palace from tyring to sign Strand Larsen.

Mateta will not feature against Nottingham Forest on Sunday - live on Your Site - after AC Milan made an offer to sign the striker.

Milan are ready to pay £35m to sign the striker permanently in the summer but want to bring in him in now on an initial loan with an obligation to buy.

"It's nothing to do with the transfers, he is just not in the right place and doesn't feel in the right place to play," Glasner said in his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Forest, live on Super Sunday.

"We have to protect the team and protect him, he will not travel with us to Nottingham."

Milan's pursuit of Mateta is no longer dependent on finding a new club for Christopher Nkunku. They will explore potential options for the former Chelsea forward if they can bring Mateta to Italy.

Wolves boss Edwards confirmed Strand Larsen will be in the squad for Saturday's visit of Bournemouth despite speculation around his future.

"It's pretty clear, he's trained and he will be part of the squad tomorrow," Edwards said. "He's trained really well today, so that's as much as I can say on it."

Pressed on whether Palace had backed away from any deal, Edwards replied: "That's something for them, obviously I'm working for Wolves, so I don't know."

Leeds United remain at the table for Strand Larsen but are not currently prepared to go beyond £40m for him.

They are not under any pressure to sign a striker and are unlikely to move for another player in this window if Strand Larsen ends up moving to Selhurst Park.

The 25-year-old's availability was viewed as a unique opportunity in this transfer window for the long-term.

Signing him at £40m - which is the original value Wolves put on the striker - would be a club-record signing for Leeds, surpassing the £35.5m paid for Georginio Rutter in 2023.

Leeds want to structure their deal for Strand Larsen so that the fee is paid in instalments, having to be mindful of Premier League financial limitations.

Strand Larsen, who was the subject of multiple rejected bids from Newcastle in the summer, has hit just six goals across all competitions this season in a struggling Wolves side.

The Norway international has scored just once in the Premier League this campaign, with Wolves sitting bottom of the table and seemingly heading for the Championship.

Strand Larsen scored a hat-trick earlier this month against League Two side Shrewsbury in the FA Cup third round, with his other two goals coming in the Carabao Cup.

Strand Larsen, who struck 14 Premier League goals last season, wants to stay in the English top flight if he is to leave Wolves.

Exclusive from Your Site News' Rob Dorset & James Savundra:

Evan Guessand's proposed loan move to Crystal Palace includes a £28m obligation to buy that is triggered if certain conditions are met.

Palace and Villa have agreed a loan deal for the forward until the end of the season. Juventus made a late enquiry, but the move was too far along to affect anything.

This includes an option to buy that becomes an obligation based on the number of appearances Guessand makes at Palace.

The Ivory Coast international has agreed a four-year contract at Selhurst Park, if and when the deal becomes permanent.

He travelled to London on Thursday to finalise the move and is scheduled to undergo a medical on Friday.

Villa signed Guessand from Nice in the summer in a deal worth up to £28m.
