Aberdeen vs Celtic: Postponed Scottish Premiership fixture rearranged for March 4 at Pittodrie, live on Sky Sports

Aberdeen’s postponed match against Celtic has been rearranged for March 4, live on Your Site.

The two clubs were due to meet at Pittodrie on Wednesday, however, the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

It's after the Dons were concerned by an area of the surface at the Merkland end of the stadium following "prolonged rain over the last few weeks", and called for a pitch inspection.

Fourth official Greg Soutar checked the surface at 4pm and found the ground to be unsafe for players, meaning the game could not go ahead.

The year has got off to a wet start in Aberdeenshire, which recorded the wettest January since 2016 with 124mm of rainfall, more than double the monthly average.

Soutar told Your Site News: "There was an area of concern raised about the bottom end within the penalty area. I've had a look at it, there's extremely soft mud, it's moving when you put studs in it and there's concern player safety when they're running in it that their studs will just slip.

"The ball's not bouncing in that area either. Player safety is paramount and that's not something I could ensure. It's not one I thought was in doubt, it's a fairly straightforward decision."

The new fixture, which kicks off at 8pm, will come four days after the Dons visit league leaders Hearts, while Celtic will go into the fixture off the back of visiting rivals Rangers three days prior.

Celtic had hoped to boost their title bid and take advantage of leaders Hearts' slip-up on Tuesday night, after Derek McInnes' side were beaten 1-0 by St Mirren.

However, with Martin O'Neill's side not in action, Rangers beat Kilmarnock 5-1 to move into second above their Old Firm rivals and are now three points off top spot.

While Celtic remain six points off top spot, with a game in hand, Aberdeen are seventh, with Falkirk pulling further clear after their win over Livingston.
